About Us

The Project

French is one of Canada’s two official languages. Nearly 100,000 bilingual people live in Greater Calgary, one-third of whom are Francophones. There are also numerous people, both youths and adults, who are learning French.

The Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta (ACFA) – Régionale de Calgary created this online volunteer portal and the resulting services to address the need for the search and coordination of French-speaking volunteers. The Bilingual Volunteering Project enables bilingual volunteers and the organizations seeking them in Greater Calgary to find each other more easily.

The Benefits

The needs of bilingual people are varied: they want to learn, put their skills and abilities into practice, hold discussions in French, challenge themselves, acquire new knowledge and abilities, and develop their social network. Volunteer work can meet all these needs!

Volunteers on this portal can bring a bilingual flavour to your events.
Volunteers help organizations build strong and broad ties with the community and act as enthusiastic ambassadors for partner organizations by promoting bilingualism.

The BBBV fosters community vitality and inclusion.

The portal allows volunteers to expand their French-speaking network in Calgary and to develop a sense of belonging to their community. Volunteers can also pass on their knowledge and strengthen their French skills during your organisation’s events.

The Objectives

  • Promote French-language volunteering and bilingualism in the Greater Calgary area
  • Enhance organizations’ ability to mobilize bilingual volunteers
  • Act as a bridge between bilingual volunteers and our partners
  • Give Francophones and Francophiles the opportunity to interact in French, thereby facilitating intercommunity integration

If you want to volunteer in French, the bilingual volunteer portal is there for you. Check out the database to find a volunteer opportunity in French that will inspire you!

If you wish to become a partner, the bilingual volunteer portal publishes your advertisements for volunteers in its database,  promote it to potentials candidates whose profile match your posting criteria, offers workshops for volunteers and volunteers managers and supervisors, and can help you connect with other organizations seeking bilingual volunteers.
